What We Believe

We believe that free market capitalism, combined with Constitutionally limited government, is the best thing that every happened to the world, and has created greater human opportunity and prosperity than any other social or political system.

We believe that independence—personal, political, and financial—is the right of every American who is willing to earn it.

We believe that investing intelligent, educated, ethical investment in real estate is the easiest, most accessible, and most proven way for the average person to achieve financial independence.

We believe that freedom is something that we constantly pay for—with our investments of time, money, energy, thought, effort, protest, and sometimes blood.

We believe that financial freedom also requires investment: either in education or in painful, uneducated experience.

We believe the latter to be by far the more expensive option.

We believe that real estate investors and landlords are an indispensable resource for providing and improving much-needed housing in our community.

We believe that, as in any profession, will always be bad operators in real estate, and that we will all, to some degree, be judged by the actions of such unethical people.

We believe that it is the duty of every real estate entrepreneur to act in an ethical manner, and to hold others to the same standard.

We believe that if we do not take the responsibility for educating and, to the extent that we can, regulating our competitors, invites ruinous legislation and regulation from clueless politicians and bureaucrats.

We believe that real estate entrepreneurs and real estate investing associations must stand up and become pro-industry activists, or we will live with the image that the worst practitioners in our business have created for us.

We must communicate the good we do in converting worn out, unwanted properties into housing, and in saving home owners from foreclosure, and in providing affordable housing.

We must publicize that we create tens of thousands of jobs for contractors, suppliers, service providers, and staff each year. We must show that we add billions of dollars to the American economy by paying wages and taxes and buying materials, supplies, and professional services.

We believe that people involved in illegal flipping, predatory lending, and intentional fraud should be given jail time,  and that people involved in buying, fixing up, and reselling properties for a profit should be given medals.

We believe that most tenants are responsible, ethical, upright people who strive to meet their obligations, keep their homes in good condition, and be good citizens of the community.

We believe that the rest, who steal from their landlords by destroying their properties, or who steal their neighbor's right to quietly enjoy their community, should go to jail.

We believe that people should be able to live wherever they can afford to live.

We believe that refusing to provide housing to another individual because of his race, color, religion, sex, nationality, handicap, sexual orientation, accent, or number of children is both ignorant and bad business.

We believe that tenants have the right to demand safe, decent, sanitary, affordable housing from their landlords.

We believe that the government has repeatedly shown itself incapable of providing safe, decent, sanitary, affordable housing.

We believe that housing is a fundamental need (but not necessarily a right), and that real estate investors and landlords are and will always be the best providers of affordable housing and rental housing.

We believe that private sector businesses have the right to make a profit in return for providing safe, decent, affordable, sanitary housing. Further, they should be free of unreasonable government harassment in the form of  mandatory inspections, landlord licensing, rental registrations, or any of the dozens of other forms of tax and over-regulation that municipalities have found to levy on housing providers.

We believe that landlords who are unwilling or unable to keep their properties in decent condition should get out of the rental housing business.

We believe that most of those people on late night TV who talk about how they bought a seminar and got rich as a result are telling the truth.

We believe that, like the disclaimer says, those results are atypical.

We believe that the best real estate investing education comes through a combination of carefully vetted general strategic and technical information, local perspective, networking, and professional advice.

We believe that carefully-selected real estate “gurus” are an important part of any real estate education, because seminars, bootcamps, and home study courses created and taught by real experts with real experience and a real heart for teaching are the best and least expensive way to learn entire strategies from beginning to end in a short period of time.

We also believe that the vast majority of self-proclaimed “gurus” are no more than professional information marketers with nothing to add to the real estate education world except over-priced, inferior information.

We believe that it’s the responsibility of association leaders to expose their members only to those experts—local, regional, and national—who are truly experienced and who sell materials that are high-quality, up-to-date, practical, and complete enough for the average association member to take, use, and profit from.

We believe that it’s the responsibility of association members to make wise use of the information that they’re provided, to seek assistance when needed, to realistically their own personal and financial situation when making investments, and to generously pass on their experience and knowledge to other investors.

We believe that more people in Central Ohio need to understand how investing in real estate can make them financially independent.

We believe in less hype and more detailed, specific, education about how to make money in real estate while being good, ethical citizens of the community.
